For most of us are very much used to milk consumption on a daily basis. Especially females prefer to take a glass of milk every day to gain calcium. It is true that milk is a good source of calcium. But today, technology has advanced so much that we do not need to take calcium from animal sources. The minerals from vegetables can very well be trapped into a single tablet and consumed.
The problem I face with buffalo milk was that it made me lethargic. Today I consume cow milk which is lighter. Here I am talking about coconut milk which is creamier, tastier and 100% vegan. It takes only 5 minutes to prepare and is a light and healthy alternative to animal milk.
You will need - A fresh coconut (that still has water inside), a coconut scraper, a mixer, a strainer, water.
Break the coconut into half and let the water flow out. You can also collect this water and drink it.Scrape the tender coconut from the inside completely, till you can see the brown shell. Add the scraped coconut in the mixer with some water and mix well.Take out the liquid and run through a strainer. The liquid collected at the bottom is called the first milk of coconut. This is very think and can be used for drinking or making fruit shakes, smoothies etc.The coconut collected in the strainer can again be mixed with water and strained to obtain second and third milk of coconut. These forms of milk are thinner and lighter.
Coconut milk has a very unique flavor and can add a vegan twist to any recipe you prepare. you can also use it to make sauce for noodles or pasta which is an absolute favorite in my house.
Coconut milk can also be used for daily consumption as a drink and can also be used to make ice creams.
