I grew up in a family of farmers, learning my whole life how to take care of farm animals. As I got older, I began to understand that the animals I was feeding, were the same thing sitting on my plate at the dinner table. All it took was a four wheeler ride into the woods, where I found the remains of a pig that had been butchered. I quickly changed my lifestyle and began researching what animals go through before they make it to the dinner table. I couldn't believe what people were doing to animals. I vowed that day to never support the meat industry again. I now use tofu and other substitues to remain living a healthy lifestyle. I state my case to everyone I know, because I don't think people are up front about what goes on in butchering. It's inhumane and sick. Don't support the cruel treatment of animals, you wouldn't want anyone to put your pet through that so how is a cow so different? If you were to raise a cow from a calf and spend time with it on a daily basis, it will be a companion just like a house dog or cat. Remember to meet your meat before you eat an animal again. Research what they go through, and perhaps we can change how animals are treated in this world.

Hello! I voted! I live in farm country too and on one hand cows seem so happy in the fields, calving time the babies are jumping and playing, but then suddenly they are gone. Where? To the packing house. Great post!

Voted. 100% agree, we should meet our meat! Most people are disconnected and in denial. You might be interested in my latest recipe, Crostini Variopinti, and if you like it, please vote! :-)
