Kulcha is popular Indian flat bread that originates from the north of India and is prepared on a regular basis. Today, I am going to share my version of vegan Indian kulcha, which is absolutely simple to prepare and it can be eaten with any type of curry. It is prepared from whole wheat flour, which makes it healthy-ish. Indian kulchas can be prepared in no time. So let’s get started!
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of whole wheat flour
- ½ cup of almond milk
- 2 tablespoons vegan butter
- 1 tablespoon of grated garlic
- 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
- Water
- Salt to taste
- Olive oil
Directions:
Step 1: In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, almond milk, and water. Knead the dough for about two minutes and make a soft (yet thick) base out of the mixture.
Step 2: Add the grated garlic, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
Step 3: You can add extra water or whole wheat flour to make the dough a little softer, according to your personal preference. Be sure you feel good about the consistency before you move on.
Step 4: Make balls out of the dough. Each ball should be approximately 1-inch in diameter.
Step 5: Roll out each ball and make a flat, round kulcha. The diameter should be about 4 inches.
Step 6: Lightly oil a grill and heat it. Place the flat round kulchas on to the grill and let your kulcha cook about five minutes to a golden brown. Flip and repeat.
Butter and serve your fresh kulcha piping hot with any curry or chutney. Enjoy!
