The idea of a vegan butcher shop might sound pretty crazy, but that’s exactly what has just opened up in the town of Minneapolis in Minnesota. The Herbivorous Butcher is the name of the shop and the idea itself was first thought of by a brother and sister partnership. Veganism is on the rise all around the world. In many different countries, for many different reasons, people are changing their lifestyles and deciding to opt for meat-free foods which help them stay healthy and minimize their impact on the environment. This vegan butcher shop just goes to show how far veganism has come in the last couple of decades.
The shop was opened up by Kale and Aubry Walch. Aubry had been a vegan for many years, inspiring Kale to give veganism a try as well. The pair wanted to take things to the next level and try to change the world in their own small way. At that point, the idea for a vegan butcher shop was born. Back in 2013, the pair first began to investigate animal-friendly alternatives to meat. They sourced local ingredients and worked together to create their own great-tasting recipes. After receiving plenty of compliments on their cooking from friends and family, the two decided to start up their own stand at the Minneapolis Farmers Market.
As the pair managed to raise money and gain loyal followers, they were eventually able to begin running their own stands at metro stations. Eventually, they decided to turn to the popular crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to help them realize their dream of owning a proper shop. Aubry and Kale were amazed at the support they received. Thanks to the generosity of strangers and friends alike, the venture was able to raise over $60,000. Support for the shop came not just from US citizens, but from people all around the world.
Now, The Herbivorous Butcher is open to all and the shop is already receiving plenty of attention. Aubry and Kale work with local providers to find fresh and eco-friendly ingredients for their recipes. They have managed to compile a very impressive menu, with dozens of meat-free options for people to choose from. This shop can appeal to everyone, not just vegans, with lots of animal-free meats and cheeses on offer. The recipes used by the pair involve a variety of herbs, spices, beans and yeast to create flavors that truly resemble genuine meat.
How do they manage to make all of these recipes? Aubry and Kale simply say it’s all about hunger. The pair have been vegans for a while but grew tired at the lack of variety in their meals. They therefore wanted to start developing fresh and tasty foods to try and experimented with countless recipes over the last few years. They also receive suggestions and advice from their customers, and don’t show any signs of slowing down yet. If you’re on the lookout for vegan-friendly food in Minnesota, stop off at The Herbivorous Butcher.
