Veganuary is almost upon us and it’s all about going vegan for the month of January. This is a great New Year’s resolution to make as it sets the tone for a vegan year. Here are some tips to make the month work for you.
- Be Accountable
Sometimes it’s scary to take a leap of faith and try a new lifestyle, but what can boost your motivation to make Veganuary work is to make yourself accountable so that you stick to your goal. How do you do that? Tell your loved ones, write it on your calendar, set reminders on your phone or post an update on social media that tells everyone you know what you’re doing. This could also give you support, which will keep you focused on making Veganuary happen.
- Get Out of Bad Food Habits
Have you ever been so afraid to give up a certain food that when you did, you realised that you didn’t actually need it so much? That happened to me when I gave up chocolate (I used to call myself a chocaholic of note). I realised that I had a glamorous idea of how delicious chocolate was but when I gave it up, I didn’t really miss it that much. I also discovered when it was that I craved it (when I was stressed or bored with food I was eating!) so I could make healthier choices for those times instead of reaching for a slab. Something magical happens when you take control of your dietary choices: you not only realise your strength and will power, but you eat healthier foods that are better for you. Instead of focusing on all the foods that are out of bounds now that you’re starting a vegan diet, concentrate on all the nutritious ones that you can eat - and which you might’ve neglected because of all the dairy and meat you were consuming. It’s empowering!
- Get an App
Yes, there’s an app for being vegan. It’s called 21-Day Vegan Kickstart and it gives you loads of recipes as well as resources to help make the transition to veganism as smooth as possible. It will make you enjoy whipping up delicious and easy meals in January and it's free for download on iPhone and iPad.
