Fall is my favorite time of the year, and the perfect time for anything apple. This is my trademark dessert. If we're invited to a potluck, this recipe is usually invited too. It's not too sweet, can be made ahead, refrigerated, baked at your destination and served warm for dessert. I make this crisp all year round with whatever fruit is in season, but apple is by far my favorite. I like to play with fruit combinations. Try apple with dried unsweetened cherries or cranberries, peaches and blueberries, apples and blackberries...... You are only as limited as your imagination.
8 somewhat heaping cups of sliced tart apples, or your chosen fruit combination. Technically you can just cut the fruit up into a 9X13 baking dish. Just don’t forget to leave room for the topping.
- 1 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup all purpose flour, white or whole wheat
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2/3 cup vegan butter, softened
Place fruit in a greased 9 X 13 pan. Mix remaining ingredients and sprinkle over apples. Bake at 375 about 30 minutes or until fruit is tender and topping golden brown.
