Salsa Fresca - How to Make Fresh Tomato Salsa

If you don’t mind chopping (and unfortunately I kind of do), there is nothing like homemade salsa fresca, also known as pico de gallo. This fresh mix of tomatoes, onions, jalapeno and cilantro produces a harmony of flavors that compliment an array of dishes or is simply delicious on it’s own.

Traditionally, one serves salsa with tortilla chips, but this wonderful condiment can be used on salads, rice and pasta.  It adds spice, zest and a Mexican flare to any dish.

Fresh Tomato Salsa (Salsa Fresca)

  • ¾ cup white or red onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups plum tomatoes, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeno finely chopped with seeds removed
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 heaping tsp. coarse sea salt or to taste

Combine all of the ingredients above in a medium bowl.  Serve with tortilla chips and guacamole.

Mmmm, yummy! Voted. I'm like you, I tend to find a lot of chopping a pain, but I am sure it is worth attempting this some time. You suggest serving this with guacamole, and another blogger on this site has just posted a recipe for that, so I'll be good to go!

Vote No. 11~ Ok, geez finally got here after being side tracked big time by the avocado substitute recipe!! Just decided though that I am going to write down my favorite recipes from the site onto my index cards left over from they are handy right there in the kitchen. Thanks for two great ideas for a friends birthday party coming up. Feels good to have ideas of what to bring next week, instead of waking up that day and wondering what I will bring....:)
