The demand for organic foods is continually growing. People are increasingly concerned about their health and what is in their food. But not everyone can afford to buy organic food all the time, especially those with a big family. So here are some tips about buying organic foods in order to get the most (and the best), for your money.
*If you can't afford it, you don't have to buy everything organic:
- Find out what vegetables and fruits made it on the dirty dozen and avoid buying them if they are not organic. This way you can save some money and still get some of the vegetables you love.
*Have a budget:
- With a budget in mind, you will know exactly what you need to spend and how you will spend it. It will make it easier and it will actually save you time at the grocery store.
*Create meal plans:
- Who likes to go to the kitchen, open the refrigerator and wonder, "What am I going to fix today for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?" I sure don't! This is what works for me: I make a big soup in the crock pot (with brown rice, beans and sweet potatoes, for example). I make enough to make it last all week, and each day for dinner all I have to do is heat up the broth and pour some raw vegetables in my soup! It's delicious. I love it, and so does my husband. Of course, this might not work for everyone. So talk to your family. Not everyone likes to eat the same thing every day. Find out about their likes and dislikes regarding food, and you might be able to get away with cooking only once or twice a week! How awesome would that be?!
*Finally, don't stress about it!:
- Living a healthy life and eating right should be fun, not stressful. Think about how good your body will feel when you make healthy choices. Your life can also be an inspiration to others who have a hard time eating healthy. So have fun!Experiment with foods. Look up recipes if you are not the type of person that likes to eat the same thing everyday. Eating healthy can be something that your whole family can enjoy! And when you those cravings for processed sweets come knocking at your door, tell them No, and make your own desserts! There are thousands of recipes out there for those with a sweet tooth or other snack tendencies, that can be healthy, delicious, and very simply, satisfying.
