When I discuss healthy, organic, green living in my writing and in conversations, I include veganism because everything is connected. Vegans are Earth stewards because we live with compassion for all life, including all things ecological. I often read conversations on Twitter and Facebook about the importance of using beauty products that are vegan but I don't often hear about the need for organic and green products in the same vein. I understand the concern for animal welfare, as I've been a vegan for 20 years. I am a very conscious organic vegan consumer.
One thing I've learned over the years is that companies like Aveda, Dr. Bronner's, Tom's of Maine, Aubrey Organics, and Jason Cosmetics care equally about delicate eco-systems, animals, and humans. These companies make wonderful safe personal care products that contain organic plant essence ingredients and neither the ingredients, nor the products were tested on animals. They do not contain any animal ingredients or by-products. For me, it's important to care about animals, the environment, and personal health equally.
Considering the toxic petrochemicals that synthetic adulterated fragrance products contain, and the potential for those fumes to cause harmful health problems to animals as well as humans, it's best to avoid using such products and use only organic, green, non-toxic ones. It makes more sense to use organic green products that you know are safe and non-toxic that contain only organic plant essence ingredients that are safe, such as spearmint, lavender, calendula, sandalwood, and chamomile. You can be sure that these products and ingredients are safe for you, the environment, and the animals and that no animal testing was involved.
