Welcome to the World of Lush
Lush Cosmetics is more than just a beauty store. Although many people know it as ‘that store that you can smell from far away’, it has several interesting, unique and – best of all – vegan characteristics that make it a must for those of us who love our planet and all its inhabitants.
The first thing anyone notices when walking in – after the perfumes have hit you like a wall of bricks – is the array of colours. This store loves to make pretty products. And, even though physical beauty is only skin deep, there is definitely more to these perky little shops than its lovely smell and soaps.
After that initial ‘first impression’, what one needs to do is read the labels. ALL products have the ingredients clearly indicated. Mostly natural, these cosmetics – soaps, shampoos, lotions, massage bars, bath bombs, and much more – often contain fair-trade and organic ingredients. Very few contain animal by-products, and those that do usually have no more than honey or the odd egg. The few ingredients that aren’t natural are mostly ‘safe synthetics’, products that are derived from sources that don’t endanger our planet or our skin, such as glycerine made from coconut oil. Wonderful, isn’t it?
The last thing that needs to be mentioned, but definitely not the least, is the minimal-packaging philosophy that makes it so that the scents almost knock you out when you enter. Many of their products are ‘bare’, meaning that you pick it out of the pile and they pop it in a paper bag for you to take home. Others, such as their soaps, are packed in compostable paper or plastic wraps. The bottles are recyclable, and the pots – mostly for body lotions and face masks – can be returned for a free product: five pots for a free facial mask! Great deal!
Oh, and for those of you who don’t like dying your hair because of the harmful chemicals contained in mainstream hair dyes, look no further! Lush has a series of hair dyes that will blow you away!
