This incredibly gooey, sweet, and delectable recipe for 100% vegan cinnamon-rolls will knock you out of your seat.
Usually cinnamon rolls are hard to make, time consuming, and generally a pain in the butt but let's be honest... they're so good. This recipe is completely vegan and pretty easy too! Not to mention my entire house smelled like an amazing bakery for the rest of the day... the cinnamon rolls were gone pretty quickly though.
These cinnamon rolls only involve seven ingredients and a couple hours, and they're totally worth it. My mouth is watering just thinking about how good these were.
Here's our list of ingredients (serves 10 but can be adjusted)
- 1/4 cup and 1 tablespoon of sugar or stevia
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
- 3 cups of all purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of Earth Balance or your favorite vegan butter, divided
- 1 cup of plain, unsweetened almond or soy milk
- 1 packet of instant yeast
- A little bit of grapeseed or canola oil to coat your mixing bowl
Let's begin!
First things first we want to get out a large sauce pan and heat up the almond milk along with 3 tablespoons of our Earth Balance/vegan butter. We want the two to be warm and melted but never boiling, just a little bit of a simmer. Once the two are melted and warm take the saucepan off of the heat and let it cool down to about 110º F. It should be warm but not too hot.
Put this warm mixture into a large mixing bowl and slowly sprinkle in the instant yeast packet. Let this sit for 10 minutes.
After letting the mixture and yeast sit for 10 minutes add in a tablespoon of the sugar or stevia along with the salt, stir it up.
Next you should slowly add in your flour in 1/2 cup increments while stirring until it's all combined thoroughly. When the dough is too thick to keep stirring you can take the dough out of the bowl and knead it for a minute on a surface lightly dusted in flour until it forms a ball that's easy to work with.
Rinse out the mixing bowl with warm water and coat the inside with a little bit of grapeseed or canola oil, put the ball of dough back into the mixing bowl and cover with plastic cling wrap. Keep the bowl in a warm / room temperature place for 1 hour. This will allow it to rise and double in size.
After the dough has doubled in size you can take it out of the bowl and put it on your lightly floured surface, ready to roll.
Roll the dough into a thin rectangle shape and coat the even rectangle of dough with 3 tablespoons of melted Earth Balance or vegan butter.
Sprinkle the rest of the sugar along with your cinnamon evenly over the buttered dough.
Now roll up the dough into a cylinder and cut the dough tube into 2 inch sections with a knife
Butter the bottom and sides of an 8x8 oven-safe dish with Earth Balance or vegan butter, and place the 2 inch tall cinnamon rolls in the dish
Brush the cinnamon rolls with the rest of the Earth Balance or vegan butter and let sit on top of the oven covered in plastic cling wrap while your oven preheats to 350º F.
Bake the rolls for approx. 25-30 mins and then let cool for a bit. Serve them hot though!
To really make these cinnamon rolls to die for I love to make a quick vegan frosting to coat the rolls with too:
- 1 cup of organic powdered sugar
- 1 to 2 tablespoons of almond milk
Mix those two ingredients together and drizzle over the rolls while they're still hot.
Voilà! Enjoy!
