I’m lucky to live in Portland, Oregon, which has to be one of the most vegan friendly cities in the entire universe. The number of vegan options is astounding, and sometimes overwhelming, but on a sunny Friday afternoon after work last week I knew there was only one place I wanted to go: Vtopia. Vtopian Artisan Cheeses started as a small business operating out of the Southern Oregon college town of Eugene, where they experimented to create incredible cheese flavors that would be sold at a local market.
Before too long, Vtopia was taking over the vegan cheese world! Vtopian cheeses are now available in a range of stores across the US, including some Whole Foods and Natural Grocers. Plus – they’ve opened their amazing Portland restaurant that I was so lucky to experience last week. I’d heard great things, but honestly my mind was completely blown. I’m not even the biggest fan of vegan cheese – if I’m making pasta I usually just sprinkle some nutritional yeast on it, and if I’m cooking pizza I generally skip the cheese all together. Vtopia may have changed that for me though...
The diversity of their cheeses was amazing! I ordered a cheese platter (naturally) which came with everything from sharp cheddar to smoked gouda (my mouth is watering just thinking about that one) to their incredibly popular caramelized onion camembert (I know right?!), the sundried tomato brie, Mediterranean Feta and so on and so on. The variety was astonishing and every single cheese was incredibly delicious. I brought a non-vegan friend along for the ride and he was speechless – mostly because his mouth was full of delicious vegan cheese the whole time.
Okay, so you may be thinking “well that’s great for you, but I don’t live in Portland and I’ve never seen Vtopian Cheeses at my local Whole Foods”. Never fear – these cheeses can be SHIPPED RIGHT TO YOUR DOOR! At the time of writing, Vtopia are experiencing such high demand that they are currently moving to a larger processing facility and are not taking orders from their website, but you can still view the options at
What’s more, their cheeses can still be shipped to anywhere in the US via veganessentials.com, and anywhere in Canada via vegansupply.ca
So go ahead, treat yourself to some amazing vegan cheese and support this small business that is improving the lives of vegans (and cows) everywhere.
