Cook Time: 30 minutes
Guess it’s just the season for soups that keeps me coming back to more of it. And there’s nothing more savory than a sip of a nice vegetarian soup on cold wintery nights. I had this soup at a friend’s house and thought of sharing the recipe here. Trust me you won’t say no to this.
All you need is:
a) 2 cups green peas
b) 1 carrot chopped
c) ½ green pepper fine chopped
d)1 tablespoon ginger fine chopped
e) 2 cloves garlic fine chopped
f) 1 teaspoon cumin seeds g)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
h) 1 onion chopped
i) 1 cup cilantro leaves
j) 4 cups water
k) salt and pepper
In a large pan, heat one tablespoon oil. Throw in cumin seeds, ginger, garlic and chopped onions and stir for about 2 minutes. Then add carrots, green pepper and green peas, turmeric powder, salt, pepper and give it a good stir. Add cilantro leaves and 4 cups water. Cook for about 20 minutes. Then remove and carefully puree in a blender. Bring back to the pan and give it a boil. Remove and serve with garlic bread. It's really one of the most satisfying soups I had this season.

MMMMMMM! Pea soup is a long-time tradition in French Canada - as a matter of fact, the English historically (and still at times) call us 'pea soups' (as well as frogs, but that's for French people internationally). This is a lovely variety and I may try it very soon. voted!

I hadn't heard of us calling Canadians "pea soups" I must admit, but we do call the French frogs! (Because they eat their legs - eeewww! I didn't want to try that even before I went vegan). An expression we have in Britain is a "pea-souper" though, which refers to a really thick fog! (FOG, not FROG!) Have you heard of that one? I have always liked that expression, I think it is very appropriate!

That's one I never heard of. Really? Pea soup for fog? Hilarious! By the way, when I say 'the English', I do mean English Canadians. Maybe Kristo can vouch for that.
