India is famous for its street food that is filled with interesting ingredients. Dabeli is a common street food, which has originated from the Indian state of Gujarat. This recipe is full of flavors and can be prepared easily. Dabeli is basically a dish which is prepared with vegan buns, mashed potatoes and chutney. So let’s get started with this delicious vegan Indian dabeli.
FOR THE POTATO FILLING:
- 4 boiled potatoes
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- ½ cup of pomegranate seeds
- Salt to taste
FOR THE CHUTNEY:
- 4 soaked red chilies
- lemon juice
- salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
TO ASSEMBLE:
- 4 vegan mini buns
- ½ cup ground nuts
- ½ cup chickpea noodles
- finely chopped onions
- finely chopped mint leaves
- finely chopped cilantro
METHOD:
TO PREPARE THE POTATO FILLING:
Step 1: Peel the boiled potatoes and place them in a bowl. Mash the potatoes and set them aside.
Step 2: Heat oil in a pan and add the finely chopped onions. Let the onions cook for 5 minutes. Once they turn golden brown, you’ll know that they have been cooked properly.
Step 3: Next, add the mashed potatoes to the pan and mix well.
Step 4: Add the cumin powder, red chili powder, and chaat masala to the mixture. Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 5: Add the pomegranate seeds to the mixture and set it aside.
TO PREPARE THE CHUTNEY:
Step 1: Take a blender and put the soaked chilies in the blender.
Step 2: Add the minced ginger and minced garlic in the blender.
Step 3: Lastly, add salt and lemon juice to the mixture and blend the mixture for 5 minutes until it’s a smooth paste.
ASSEMBLING THE DABELI:
Step 1: Take the 4 vegan buns and apply the chutney in the center.
Step 2: Now take the potato filling and put it on one side of the bun.
Step 3: Put some chopped onions, mint leaves, and cilantro leaves on the potato filling.
Step 4: Lastly, sprinkle some roasted peanuts, pomegranate seeds, and chickpea noodles over the buns.
Step 5: Take the other half of the bun and place it on the top of the bottom one.
Serve the dabeli piping hot. Hope you like this recipe!
