Are you looking for a great Halloween dessert this year that is sure to impress your kids or your guests? Well, this recipe may just very well be the perfect one! It's actually not very conventional. It requires a vegetable to make this particular apple sauce. The sweet and savory flavors complement each other very well in this totally unique Fall blend.
And, the orange color of the squash makes this the perfect addition to your Halloween meal! Simple, easy, and quick, the entire family is sure to love and enjoy such a fabulous treat!
Please note that you can easily switch the butternut squash for pumpkin as well. Or, if you prefer, you can also make a half pumpkin, half squash mixture.
- 6 apples
- 300 g butternut squash
- 4 tablespoons of sugar (or more, if you have a sweet tooth)
1. Peel the apples. Cut out the core and chop them into little cubes. Peel and cut the butternut squash (or the pumpkin, if you wish to use that instead) into small squares as well. Make sure to remove the seeds beforehand.
2. Put everything into a pot – the fruits and the squash, as well as the sugar. Add a bit of water, just enough to cover the bottom of the pot. Cook with the lid partially covering the pot for about twenty minutes, until the fruits and squash are tender. Make sure to stir once in a while.
3. Put the mixture in a blender or use a hand-held blender to mix it well. I recommend a very smooth paste for the texture, but you can make it as you wish.
Enjoy this great dessert!
** To make it perfect and to follow the Halloween theme, add dark chocolate shavings on top in order to make this an orange and black dessert.
