BBQ Black Bean Gluten Steaks

Prep Time: 30

Cook Time: 60

A lot of people think that gluten steaks are hard and time consuming to make! This recipes proves that wrong; they are super easy and come out delicious!! I grew up loving gluten steaks and these black bean ones add great flavor and demention to them!

BBQ Black Bean Gluten Steaks

Gluten Steaks:

  •  2 cups cooked black beans
  •  1 medium onion, chopped
  •  1/2 cup quick oats
  •  1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes
  •  1 tsp. garlic powder
  •  1 tsp. onion powder
  •  1 tsp. McKay’s Vegan Beef Style Seasoning
  •  1 tsp. salt
  •  1 1/2 cups cold water
  •  1/4 cup olive oil
  •  1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
  •  2 cups gluten flour
  •  1 cup panko bread crumbs

BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 T. Vegan Worceshire Sauce
  • 3 T. brown sugar
  • ½ t. Cinnamon
  • 1/8 t. red pepper
  • ¼ t. nutmeg
  • ¼ t. cloves
  • ¼ t. ginger
  • ½ t. garlic salt

Directions: For the BBQ sauce mix all ingredients together and set aside.

Preheat oven at 350. Have a large skillet heating with olive oil for browning the gluten steaks after you have formed them.

For gluten steaks, in a food precessor or blender mix all ingredients until smooth, except for the whole wheat and gluten flour and panko. Put the gluten flour and whole wheat flour into a bowl and add black bean mixture to it. Stir with a spoon and then with hands when the dough becomes stiff. Take handfills of the dough and form into 1 inch thick, round patties to the size of your choice. Cover each pattie with the panko bread crumbs and then brown in a large skillet over medium heat with olive oil. Take the patties out once they are browned and pat off the extra oil with a paper towel. Place into a 9X11 baking sheet, cover the patties with the BBQ sauce and bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes.

These will freeze easily, so you can make up a big batch and save some for later!

Voted. These look and sound amazing! Is a gluten steak the same as a seitan one? I had that recently and really enjoyed it.
