Take note all vegetarians and vegans! The Chickpea, or as I know them, Garbanzo bean, is packed with:
- dietary fiber
One and a half cups provides 134 calories of energy and 7 grams of protein! Chickpeas are also a benefit to those trying to lose weight. The fiber is filling, controls appetite, and signals the stomach and nervous system that you are full. The Chickpea reduces LDL cholesterol levels in the blood, therefore reducing the risk of stroke, while simultaneously providing folates that improve cellular health and cell regeneration. Now for the fun part! They are delicious! Add to a salad or other dish (cooked) for a good nutty taste or prepare as a hummus in your blender (I like roasted red peppers too) to then top off your choice of crackers or toast. This little pea is now going to the top of my grocery list!
