Strawberry-Banana Soy Fruit Smoothie, "It's What's For Breakfast"

A great way to start your day is with this easy fruit smoothie for breakfast. A smoothie can easily be enjoyed in the car on the way to work or school. This particular smoothie is packed with nutritional benefits.

  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 2/3 cup soy milk
  • 6 ounces silken tofu
  • 3 ice cubes

Place peeled and sliced banana chunks and drained silken tofu on a baking dish in the freezer for 15 minutes. Combine all ingredients except for ice cubes in blender and blend until texture is creamy. Add ice cubes to the blender for about 30 seconds or until ice chunks are no longer seen.

"The United States Department of Agriculture acknowledges soy protein to be on par to animal protein in nutritional value for human consumption. Soy contains sufficient quantities of essential amino acids to meet the nutritional needs of humans. Soy is a healthy alternative for people monitoring saturated fat intake.

All soy products are not the same. Tofu, edamame, and soymilk are manufactured from the whole soybean. This preserves the nutritional value of soy compared to products that are processed from isolated soy protein. Tempeh, tamari, shoyu, natto and miso are also healthy choices. Soy ingredients that have been genetically manipulated should be removed from the diet. Look for soy products with the word "organic" on the label.

Some people are concerned about upset stomachs after drinking soy milk. People with soy allergies should not consume soy milk; however, most healthy people can drink soy milk with no problems. There is a percentage of the population that is allergic to eggs, peanuts, shellfish and milk, but the remaining humans can eat these food products with no problem. If you are not allergic to soy products, go ahead try this delicious smoothie for breakfast in the morning!
