On World Health Day Make a Promise for a Healthier Life

Every year the 7th of April is celebrated as World Health day. WHO started its operations on this day in 1948. WHO has a theme for this day every year and this year it is "Aging and Continuing Good Health".

What can be a better good health choice than the choice of a Vegan lifestyle?

There are other issues like smoking, drinking and substance abuse but the good news is that all of it can be undone.

No matter what your past is, today is the first day of the rest of our lives for all of us. So what are the healthy choices you make today?

For me it is "reduce refined flour intake". Yes, I plan to be consuming more fresh fibrous foods like this great cucumber salad and reduce foods that remain struck in the stomach. By the way, did you know that a non-veg meal takes 48 hours to digest completely while a vegan meal takes just 2! Fiber is necessary to keep the bowel clean and fruits and vegetables have ample of it.

We all grow older everyday but with healthy choices, we can make the aging process a healthy one. It is time we all commit to invest some time for our health every day. Food and exercise are two basic pillars of a healthy life.

I was impressed by this excellent initiative by the Art of Living which is organized today in more than 100 countries across the globe. In this event called the Yogathon, millions of people took up the challenge of performing 108 sun salutations in less than an hour. Yoga is one such harmless way to healthy aging.

You can choose to develop any habit like drinking more water or giving up a habit that you know is not good for your health in the long run. Use this day to make a promise and find long lasting health.

Note: Share your resolution with others. This will bring in greater commitment.

I already started working on my resolution a few days back, "No mindless munching of stuff while working late in night". Working late in night itself is bad enough :).

Definitely! If you notice your mind, you will find that Vegan food and yoga induce each other. Moreover, yoga is more effective when your diet is vegetarian..something called 'sattva' in the jargon. Thanks for your vote and comment THHH, I would love to read about your yoga experiences too!
