How Ariana Grande Can Help Us Become Better Vegans

Forget cheating and fashion faux pas - one of the common celebrity scandals making the news involves stars who claim to be vegan but then get caught out eating meat or wearing fur. This isn't about naming and shaming, however. We can actually use such stories to highlight common obstacles vegans face when following the lifestyle plan and how to deal with them.

  • Ariana's Non-Vegan Treat 

Singer and actress Ariana Grande is the latest star to fall prey to the scandal. Although she claims to be vegan, she was recently caught biting into a doughnut. Apparently the chocolate doughnut she was eating hails from a company that isn’t vegan.   Whether you’re a celebrity or not, it’s not always easy to stay vegan. There are commonly two reasons for this. One is that many supposedly vegan foods that logic would deem to be free of animal products are actually not vegan at all. An example is doughnuts. Another reason is that sometimes temptation comes knocking, causing you to upend your best vegan intentions.

  • Stay on the Vegan Course 

To prevent these relapses, it helps to stay on top of things. Here are some good lifestyle habits to help you stay on track with your vegan lifestyle choices:

  • Stay out of temptation’s way. If you know you always end up wanting sweet treats, such as chocolate doughnuts, after a stressful day, pack vegan food that you can snack on the way home instead of pulling into your local pastry shop. 
  • Consider why you are cutting out animal products from your diet and if there is a vegan spectrum. For instance, are you halfway on the spectrum, being vegetarian and not full-on vegan just yet? Or, are you going for a complete vegan lifestyle that includes absolutely no animal ingredients in any food at all? It helps to figure this out. Some people need to ease into a vegan lifestyle and prepare for it. That’s okay, too. Find out where you fall on the spectrum so that you go in with a clear head. 
  • Do your research. As with any lifestyle change, knowledge is power. Get informed about foods that are vegan and the surprising offenders that aren’t to prevent you from making errors. Stay up-to-date with the latest vegan news and tips so that you curb any obstacles you might face. And if you do fall off the wagon? Get up and start again, this time wiser. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
