Let's face it, cooking healthy and lean meals as a vegan can take a great deal of patience and time! Most of us lead busy lives, others aren't too fond of the kitchen. So how can we reduce the time we are required to spend preparing our dishes? Follow these six easy and healthy hacks to make mouth-watering meals in fifteen minutes or less!
Step 1- Clean up while you cook.
How annoying is it to re-enter the kitchen for twenty additional minutes of pure cleaning? The counters are messy and the dishes are now caked with dried food residue. Yuck! Cleaning up after cooking is unavoidable, but you can simplify the process by tidying your kitchen in between preparing your food. No more tall, menacing stacks of dishes!
Step 2- Stop running back and forth to the refrigerator!
Seriously, have you ever counted how many trips you take to your refrigerator? Chances are, it;s a lot! Even though a few steps to grab an ingredient may only take a couple seconds, those seconds add up to a large amount of your precious time. The ingredients you use to prepare your healthy meal aren't going to spoil if they sit on the counter for a bit! Take practically everything you need out of the refrigerator and wait to put them back at the same time when you no longer need them.
Step 3- The refrigerator is your friend. Let it help you!
Guess what, the fridge isn't just a tool to help you preserve your foods! It can actually help speed up your cooking process.
Freeze your herbs! Plucking, washing, and chopping important herbs can be a hassle. Save time by taking an ice cube tray and filling each cube halfway with organic extra-virgin olive oil. Insert fresh, whole or chopped herbs into the olive oil and freeze. Pop a cube out when you are ready for some flavor! Keep homemade sauces, broths, and dressings at hand. You can save yourself a lot of time in the kitchen by preparing a friendly volume of your go-to sauces, broths, and dressings and storing them in the refrigerator in airtight containers. Slice up your veggies at the beginning of the week! Half or more of the time it takes to cook is centered around preparation. By cutting your vegetables and storing them, all you have to do is grab your ingredients and throw them in the mix!
Step 4- Make bulk bases.
Does your recipe call for zucchini, cooked noodles or pasta, hunks of sweet potatoes, or a bundle of chopped carrots? Save yourself from endless amounts of time struggling to chop or cook the bases for your meals! Preparing your food bases beforehand and storing them can shave the duration of cooking in half. Don't be afraid of your veggies spoiling! Make sure you are using airtight containers and sprinkle your vegetables with an acid, like lemon juice, to prevent any browning.
Step 5- Make-ahead meals are extremely convenient!
It’s time to dust off that ol' crock-pot and put it to good use! We don't always have the time time to make a nice, hot dish during our busy days. When you brew your coffee before work or school, turn the crockpot on low and chuck in all of your favorite and healthy ingredients to make a delicious meal to come home to. While you are going about your day, a savory dish will be bubbling away and all you have to do is serve it!
Step 6- Did you forget about your blender?
Juicing is one of the most current crazes. Though delicious smoothies are a fantastic meal or snack, you can use your blender to prepare simple and hearty meals. By giving vegetables such as potatoes, broccoli, or cabbage a light boil, you can toss them in the blender with garlic and a variety of spices to make a tummy-pleasing soup!
Cooking doesn't always have to take an arm, a leg, and your important time away from you. Preparation and clean-up seem to be the most inconsiderate steps in making healthful and tasty meals. By using these simple hacks, you can spend less time panicking about how many minutes you have wasted and more time enjoying, savoring, and sharing your delectably nutritious creations!
