Extra Thick Vegan Avocado Shake

Prep Time: 5 minutes

This creamy and silky shake is honestly my favorite drink in the world. Avocados are naturally creamy and do not need much more than water when making an avocado shake. Here in Bali, avocado shakes are often blended with chocolate syrup, which is a bit of a surprise especially if you are vegan, since the chocolate syrup contains milk.

This shake has the consistency of pudding and it is best to eat with a spoon rather than a straw. It is great on its own or with chopped fruit and granola added. Think of it as a green yogurt!

Ingredients: (For 3 servings)

  • 1 large avocado or 2 Hass avocados
  • 1 cup water
  • sugar to taste

Instructions:

  1. Blend all ingredients in a blender.
  2. You may need to add a little more water to ease the blending process, and if you indeed want to drink this with a straw feel free to add MUCH more water.
  3. Serve in a bowl and eat with a spoon.

Voted. Another deliciously unusual beverage! I am surprised that they sometimes add chocolate syrup to it, but it seems that chocolate is quite a good combination with this - I have heard of a raw-vegan chocolate cake recipe which uses avocado, in place of the normal butter, margarine, etc! I must try it sometime. I love avos, I think they are my favourite of all fruit/veg!

I voted, though I would definitely put more stuff into it. I've tasted this sort of shake before, and although I love avocadoes, I can't eat them just as they are with sugar. My mouth doesn't approve! But with fruits and granola, that should be good enough for my taste buds to remember that it's not truly a vegetable! Voted!

Thanks again Kristo. For a while now I have been including avocado in my so called smoothies wich may as well be called chunkies because I prefer to have something to chew in my smoothies. Now I will try this metod of just putting a few ingredients in an avocado smoothie.I also like to eat my smoothies with a spoon and sometimes in a bowl.Voted!

sounds good. i just wrote a simple avocado recipe, as well. this week, i have had a craving for avocados for some reason. some chocolate is vegan because raw cocoa comes from a plant, but when it goes through processing, there might be other stuff added to it like milk and etc. also, carob and carob chips can be a substitute, if one cannot find raw cocoa powder.

Wish I would have had this recipe when I lived in Florida. We had our own avocado trees and I mostly ate them as is or in salads. But of late I have seen many uses for avocado including as an ingredient for chocolate pie. Thanks for sharing. voted.
