Oats are a must for your regular diet plan: they're packed with fibre, keep your blood sugar stable, have a calming effect and contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids. But it’s not just something you should eat - did you know any of these interesting uses for oats?
- 1. Wash Away Acne
There’s a reason why so many skincare products contain oatmeal. They fight zits! You can easily make your own face scrub by blending two tablespoons of oatmeal and adding a tablespoon of baking soda. Then, throw in a bit of water so that it becomes a paste. Rub this into your face when you’re having a breakout and leave it on for about ten minutes.
- 2. Kill Bad Smells
Oats are great at removing bad odours, so pop some in the fridge, or place some oatmeal flakes in your ashtrays to neutralize the smell of smoke.
- 3. De-Itch Your Pets!
Since it’s so soothing, oats can also be good for your pets if they suffer from itches that they’re constantly scratching. Mix oats with warm water and smooth it over your dog’s fur. Wrap it in some foil and try to keep your dog still for approximately fifteen minutes. Then wash it off. You can do this on a regular basis until your dog doesn’t scratch itself anymore.
- 4. Soak up Spills
When you spill oil in the kitchen, drizzle some oats over the mess. This will help to absorb the spill. Leave it on the floor or surface for a few minutes and then mop it away.
- 5. Smooth Your Body
If you want smoother, more luxurious skin, bring oats to the bath. For a bit of bathing bliss, just add two cups of uncooked oatmeal, a cup of milk and honey to your lukewarm tub. Relax and enjoy!
