Dal basically refers to pulses or lentils. In India there are various types of dal prepared, such as dal tadka, dal bukhara, dal makhani ,and many more. Today I am going to share a recipe of dal makhani (lentil curry). In India, dal and rice are staple foods which originate from north India. This dish is simply exotic and spicy. The aromatic Indian spices give a different taste to the dish. This dish is extremely easy to make but takes time. It's healthy and simple. Let’s get started with our vegan dal makhani.
• 1 cup black lentils
• 2 green chilies
• 1 cup tomato paste
• Oil to cook
• Salt to taste
• 1 teaspoon cumin powder
• ½ teaspoon chili powder
• ½ cup vegan soy butter
• ½ cup vegan soy cream
• 3 chopped onions
• 4 garlic cloves
STEP 1: Soak the lentils in water for at least 6 hours.
STEP 2: Once the lentils are soaked properly for 6 hours, wash the lentils four times.
STEP 3: Now the lentils are ready to boil in an open pot or a pressure cooker. It will take almost 40 minutes for the lentils to boil properly.
STEP 4: Now that the lentils are well cooked, drain the excess water and keep the lentils aside.
STEP 5: Add oil to a skillet. Then add ginger, garlic, and chopped onions. And let them cook until the color turns to golden brown.
STEP 6: Now add the cumin powder and chili powder to the mixture.
STEP 7: Add the tomato paste and let the mixture cook for 5 minutes.
STEP 8: Once the mixture is cooked for 5 minutes, add the boiled lentils and some salt to taste into the mixture.
STEP 9: Now add the vegan soy cream and soy butter and mix.
Serve hot with rice! That’s all you need to do to make a healthy and delicious Indian meal!
