Citrusy Immune-Boosting Green Smoothie for Wintertime

I usually like my smoothies deep yellow, delicate pink or vibrant purple but in recent weeks I have had to change it up. Winter arrived early in Montreal and so did the sore throat that I inevitably get every year. If you work with kids or have children of your own, you probably can relate. I don’t know if it’s holding those little grubby hands, simply living in a big city or a combination of both but these past few weeks I found myself really needing some immune-boosting foods.

I’m not a big salad fan, especially during wintertime, I need my hot soups and comforting stews. However, I love smoothies.

For the last month, I have been lucky enough to get my hands on some delicious Floridian tangerines. Incredibly sugary and juicy, I figured they would be the perfect base for a vitamin C infused smoothie.

Since vitamin C helps in absorbing iron, adding spinach or other dark leafy greens was a no-brainer.  

If you are skeptical of green smoothies, this is the one for you.

It is sweet, smooth and perfectly citrusy and it will totally provide you with a nutritional punch.

For this delicious immune-boosting smoothie you will need:

 

1. 500 ml of tangerine juice

2. 1 ½ cups of frozen mangoes

3. 1-2 cups of spinach

 

Add all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and creamy.

The key to this smoothie is to use freshly squeezed citrus. If you don’t have tangerines, use oranges or even clementines. You could also add some agave nectar or pure maple syrup if it’s not sweet enough.

After drinking this smoothie every day for the last week, I can definitely say that I have beaten the cold. 

If you ever start getting sick, try this smoothie, you won't regret it.
