Balancing Your Chakras with the Vegan Spectrum

The vegan garden is plentiful with colour and adding the spectrum to your diet is easy! If you are in need of a boost, or are feeling down, add specific colours of fruits and vegetables to your diet to balance your emotions and allow your energy to flow.  

Chakras are energy points, or knots, that are located in our bodies and are believed to be key points where life forces flow.  Sometimes we feel a lack in energy, we are over emotional, uninspired or frustrated.  These emotions correspond to different chakras and colours inside of us.  Understanding where they are and what they mean can help alter your state of being.  

This is a list of the seven chakras, where they located on your body, and different fruits and vegetables that correspond to each colour. 

Red: Root Chakra Your root chakra is associated with energy, passion, warmth and vitality.  If you are feeling tired, run down, exhausted, lethargic, introduce foods such as strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, and cranberries.   It's a good idea to start your day by eating something red for that extra boost of energy! 

Orange: Creativity Chakra  Orange is associated with confidence, love and creation.  If you are feeling a lack of these, or if you need a boost, try eating some oranges, carrots, pumpkin, mangoes or sweet potatoes.  

Yellow: Solar Plexus Chakra  Yellow is personal power, goals and joy!  If you would like a little more pep in your step, or are feeling a bit sad, try some corn, pineapple, yellow peppers, yellow string beans, banana, and lentils.  Though it may not be trendy, adding yellow to your home in the form of furniture, painted walls, or other decorations also can be uplifting.

Green: Heart Chakra  The heart chakra is associated with rejuvenation love and action.  For vegans, it shouldn't be a problem finding green foods as green is the dominant colour in our food spectrum. If you are stressed, overworked, having problems with acidity or toxicity, add some extra greens to your diet.  Live enzymes, oxygen and chlorophyl will uplift your spirits and give you an extra boost of energy.  There are so many greens that it would be hard to list them all, but usually the darker the better!  Make a nice salad or a refreshing green juice and you will feel a refreshing surge of energy. 

Blue / Black: Throat Chakra  Blue (or black) is the ability to verbalize and is your calming centre.  Blue is not a colour that we often find in foods, and for that reason many of us are turned off by blue food colouring.  If you are feeling anxious, eat blueberries or blackberries.  Blue helps with confidence and speaking clearly. 

Indigo: Third-Eye Chakra The Chakra in the middle of your eyes is for devotion and peace. If you are feeling angry, frustrated, or unforgiving, you need to eat a lot of deep purple veggies.  Try eggplant, purple carrots, purple kale, purple potato, radicchio and concord grapes.  Acai smoothies are wonderful for your third eye chakra and taste amazing! 

Violet: Crown Chakra  Violet stands for empathy, unity and spirituality.  If you are feeling a need to connect with God or other forms of your spirituality, introduce violet or purple foods into your diet. Figs, plums, taro, grapes, lavender, purple corn, cabbage, beets and currents can help you feel more balanced spiritually.

    Voted! I try to get an array of colours for many reasons - esthetics, health and flavour - but now you added yet another reason to select a variety of vegetables and fruits!
