This is a very common dish from India made in a variety of styles. The one I share here is the simplest and the healthiest. If you have decided to go organic, there are lot of DIY projects you can undertake by you like growing your own fruits and vegetables. This one however, is the simplest one. If you are one of those people who love to snack while working, reading or watching movies, this is a complete guilt free option for you.
I share with you puffed rice snacks that are low in calories and high in fiber and carbohydrates. It is a quick and light snack that you can consume without any guilt.
What You Need: A pan, half cup peanuts, ½ tsp cooking oil, a packet of puffed rice, salt to taste
How to Make: Heat oil in pan and add peanuts after a minute. Keep on low flame. After the peanuts turn a little dark in color, add puffed rice (about 3-4 cups). Sprinkle salt and keep stirring on a low flame. The rice would be roasted in a minute or two. Your snack is ready. Take out in a bowl and let it cool for a minute before serving.
I like to keep it simple but you can make it tastier by adding chopped tomatoes, onions, coriander, tamarind sauce, black pepper, lemon, boiled potato etc.
You may also add puffed rice straight from the pack without roasting.
This recipe is called 'Bhel' in India and is a very popular Mumbai snack. The dry form is often called 'Murmure', 'Churmure', 'Kurmure' etc in different parts of the country.
The reason I make it at home is because I prefer organic snacking. Organic peanuts, puffed rice, salt and cooking oil are easily available in the market, but organic snacks are not. It hardly takes 5 minutes to prepare and you can be assured it is completely organic and has no added flavors, colors and preservatives.
